Quarrel led to killing and suicide in Shenzhen police office

THE two cops who were found fatally wounded and lying in a pool of blood in a police station in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province last Thursday were confirmed to have had a fierce quarrel over work and fought each other, yesterday's Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

Police said Yang Xu, 28-year-old deputy director of the police station, stabbed his 54-year-old colleague Wu Qianchun in the arms and belly on the night of September 13. Wu then shot Yang in the head and later pulled the trigger on himself.

They were found fatally wounded by another colleague who went to Yang's office about 8:40pm and were rushed to a nearby hospital where they died despite emergency treatment.

Surveillance footages showed no third person entering Yang's office around the time of killing. Police dismissed the claim that the two officers shot each other as only one gun was found at the scene.

The newspaper said Yang and Wu were both on duty that evening. Yang was newly promoted to his post and Wu was a veteran first-class police officer. It appeared that Yang showed disrespect for Wu who was already under the strain of high job pressure.
