Radiation still at harmless levels

Harmless levels of radiation are still being found in most regions of China, the National Nuclear Emergency Coordination Committee said yesterday.

Minimal amounts of iodine-131 were detected in spinach grown in Beijing and provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shandong. It was also detected on lettuce and Chinese cabbage in Guangdong Province.

Extremely low levels of iodine-131 were detected over the Yellow Sea and all provincial-level regions except Yunnan. Trace levels of caesium-137 and caesium-134 were detected in 22 regions, including Shanghai and Beijing.
