Rail expects 10% rise in spring passengers
CHINA'S railways authority expects to transport 210 million passengers during the spring travel peak period, about 10 percent more than the same time last year.
The authority today unveiled its plan for the 40-day travel peak from January 30 through March 10, People.com.cn reported. It has prepared three sets of plans to ensure fast response in emergencies.
The annual travel peak comes at Chinese New Year on February 14 when people travel to their hometowns to celebrate with their families.
The railways authority expects large numbers of workers to leave major cities including Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Hangzhou.
After the festival, packed trains are expected in inland cities such as Chengdu, Chongqing, Wuhan, Nanchang, Hefei and Fuyang as workers return to the coastal cities.
