Rail services to southern cities canceled
SHANGHAI Railway Bureau canceled 42 trains yesterday due to the arrival of Typhoon Haima, which made landfall in the coastal city of Shanwei in Guangdong Province at noon.
Most of the services were to southern cities such as Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Dongguan.
Haima was packing winds of up to 166 kilometers per hour when it hit the coast.
Under the joint influence of Haima and a cold front from north China, Shanghai endured heavy rain yesterday afternoon.
Forecasters said the rain would persist until at least tomorrow morning with the west and north parts of the city experiencing the heaviest falls.
Meanwhile, minimum temperatures are due to fall below 19 degrees Celsius tomorrow and continue to decline to 18 on Tuesday. Maximum temperatures will stay above 21 degrees till the end of next week.
The rain will have stopped by later tomorrow, and Monday and Tuesday will be mostly cloudy. However, drizzle is expected in the latter part of next week.
