Railway sleeper berths discounted

THE Ministry of Railways has announced discount fares up to 50 percent for passengers buying sleeper tickets en route.

The ministry has introduced the discounts to attract more passengers during the low season, according to the Beijing Times.

Passengers who buy tickets for sleeper berths after 6am on the last day of long journeys can enjoy discounts ranging from 20 to 50 percent. Hard sleeper berths on trips of less than 200 kilometers will cost 70 percent more than a hard seat while soft sleeper berths will be 170 percent more than a hard seat.

Hard sleeper berths on trips between 200 and 400 kilometers will be 58 percent more than a hard seat and soft sleepers 158 percent more than a hard seat.

The discounts will be available until June 30 when the summer vacation peak starts.
