Railway suspended as rainstorm batters SW China

Rainstorms have destroyed part of a railway line linking southwest China's Chongqing with Guiyang, causing delays of nearly 20 passenger trains on Wednesday.

Railway patrolmen found a 30-meter-long embankment cave-in at around 4:20 am between two stations in Guizhou Province. More than 250 rescuers rushed to repair the line, the Chengdu railway bureau said.

No casualties have been reported.

Severe rain storms across Guizhou Province have left at least five people dead and three others missing, the provincial civil affairs department said on Monday.
