Railway tunnel blast kills 8, injures 5 in Shanxi Province
Eight construction workers died and five others were injured in a railway tunnel blast in north China's Shanxi Province last Tuesday, the local government revealed today.
Officials said the accident happened around 3pm on December 25 when the workers were digging the Nanlu-Liangshan Tunnel in a mountain near Linfen City.
The project manager reportedly tried conceal the accident that killed eight workers and injured five who are now being treated in the hospital, the officials said.
The tunnel is being built by Erchu Co Ltd, a subsidiary of China Railway Tunnel Group. The company's work safety department has confirmed the accident but details of the accident are not disclosed as the official investigation is still ongoing.
The deadly accident was exposed last Saturday when someone posted a microblog on Weibo.com that a severe accident happened on a railway construction site in Linfen City.
