Rainstorms to continue in Sichuan

CHINA'S national observatory today forecast more heavy rain for southwest China's Sichuan Province, where rain-triggered floods have wreaked havoc.

The National Meteorological Center (NMC) issued a blue alert for heavy rain, saying some areas in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the provinces of Sichuan, Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong, Yunnan and Guangdong will experience heavy rain today and tomorrow.

The western part of the Sichuan Basin will have precipitation of up to 150 mm in the coming 24 hours, while other areas will experience thunderstorms and gales, the NMC said.

The NMC also issued an alert for high temperatures in some parts of Guangdong, Chongqing Municipality and areas along the Yangtze, Yellow and Huaihe rivers. Temperatures may go as high as 39 degrees Celsius in parts of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Anhui, Henan and Hubei provinces, it said.

China has a four-tier color-coded warning system for severe weather, with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
