Rape suspect soundproofed dungeon, say neighbors
THE suspected rapist in Wuhan City who allegedly imprisoned two teenage girls in a dungeon started to design his soundproof secret chamber in 2008, according to neighbors.
The two girls surnamed Zhou and Hu, aged 19 and 16, were rescued naked and shackled from the hidden basement under Zeng Xiangbao's house last week.
Zeng was arrested on a separate rape charge a week before the two girls were rescued. He confessed to police that he raped nine women but did not mention the dungeon girls, Guangzhou Daily reported today.
Villagers said Zeng started to build the basement in 2008 and used soundproofing materials, which is why no one heard the girls' cries for help.
The younger girl Hu was allegedly imprisoned by Zeng when she was 14 and kept in the windowless basement for two years. Nine months ago, Zhou ran away from her home after a fight with her parents. Zeng allegedly caught her and put her into the chamber too.
The two girls were covered in ulcers and were near to death when they were rescued, according to Wuhan police.
They were found after they wrote an SOS note in a television they broke so Zeng could send it to a repair shop.
