Real-life role for Tang as a film director’s wife

TANG Wei, the 35-year-old Chinese actress who shot to fame in Ang Lee’s 2007 “Lust, Caution,” yesterday announced her engagement to 45-year-old Korean director Kim Tae Yong.

The two first met in 2009 while shooting the director’s “Late Autumn,” according to the statement by her management company, and had remained friends since then.

The couple began a serious relationship last October, when Tang was shooting an advertisement in South Korea and met Kim again, it said. They are planning an autumn wedding.

The statement quoted the couple as saying film was one of the most important witnesses to their relationship. They got to know each other through film and became friends and lovers through film.

They said though both would have to learn a foreign language, this was their happiest time.

Tang, who is from Hangzhou in east China’s Zhejiang Province, stars in  “Golden Age,” due out on October 1.
