Real-name policy for toy aircraft buyers short-lived

SOME department stores in Beijing began to require customers to provide their real names when buying radio-controlled toy aircrafts, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

A notice caught customers' eye in the toy store of a shopping mall in Shunyi District. It read "Real name registration is needed to buy radio-controlled toy aircrafts," the newspaper said.

However, the real name policy didn't last long because the store stopped selling toy aircrafts on Tuesday.

An anonymous employee told the newspaper that the notice was placed there for some time at the request of the district police. But none of the radio-controlled aircrafts were sold due to the low-season.

Shunyi District police did not comment on the real-name registration policy which was not implemented citywide. Two major aeromodelling shops in Chaoyang and Haidian districts said they had not been notified of such a policy.
