Record Set Straight On GM seeds
VICE Agriculture Minister Wei Chaoan said in Beijing yesterday that no approval had ever been granted for the import of any genetically modified seeds for commercial planting in China.
The ministry issued safety certificates for GM rice that was resistant to certain insects and corn that helped pigs absorb more nutrients last year. But these were more a recognition of scientists' achievements than approval for commercial production, he said.
