Record payout for Air France victim

THE beneficiary of a Chinese passenger from the fatal Air France flight is expected to be paid 9.6 million yuan (US$1.4 million), the largest ever accident payout in China.

The insurer, People's Insurance Company (Group) of China, declined to disclose the name of the client but said the victim had spent 280,000 yuan on one of its accident policies in 2008, which stipulated a 40-fold return in case of an accident.

PICC visited the family of the victim today to express sympathy and offer payment.

Meanwhile, another Chinese passenger has been confirmed as the wife of a senior official in Liaoning Province.

Chen Chiping, one among six executives of the Benxi Iron and Steel Group on Air France flight 447, was the wife of Liu Guoqiang, Liaoning's vice governor.

The six-member team from the Liaoning steel manufacturer was on a business trip visiting iron ore companies in Brazil and Australia.

All nine Chinese passengers onboard have been identified.
