Red lights can't stop them but a brick did...
AN elderly man decided to dish out his own punishments on heedless cars at a zebra crossing in northwestern China who wouldn't stop for the red lights, the Lanzhou Morning Post reported yesterday.
The grey-haired man in his seventies had nearly been knocked over several times on the crossing near his home on Nanbinhe Road in Lanzhou, capital of Gansu Province. He decided to raise awareness of the rules of the road in his own way, the report said.
Police had installed lights about a year ago but many drivers still ignored them.
At about 7pm on Wednesday, the man found himself a good position and, armed with bricks, started dishing out his punishments. When a truck driver drove through the red light, the old man lobbed a brick through his side window. The driver was about to get out and argue but saw crowds of onlookers who had gathered in support.
The old man then hit another car that had run the red light. The enraged driver started to get out but raced off when he was confronted by the angry crowd.
Police arrived at about 10pm and stopped the attacks.
