Relatives find girl, 2, starved to death
A 2-year-old girl was found starved to death on Monday several days after her grandmother had died suddenly at their home in central China’s Hunan Province, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.
The girl was being looked after by the 57-year-old because her parents were working in Wenzhou in east China’s Zhejiang Province.
Police told the newspaper the grandmother, surnamed Luo, is believed to have died sometime between December 25 and 30, while the girl, surnamed Jiang, had starved to death between January 1 and 2. Their bodies were found when relatives were asked to check because the parents hadn’t been able to get in touch.
A neighbor said the girl was the youngest of three children. Her brother, the eldest, lived at a vocational school, while her sister lived with her other grandmother.
In a similar case in March, Hu Lan, 44, was found dead at her home in Suzhou, in east China’s Anhui Province, with her 18-month-old granddaughter close to death. Doctors said the baby hadn’t eaten anything for at least three days.
Hu’s son, Wei Qiang, said he had alerted neighbors when there had been no answer to several phone calls.
