Relief for quake victims
TENTS provide sufficient temporary accommodation for residents in quake-hit -Yingjiang County in Southwest China's Yunnan Province, said China's Ministry of Civil Affairs.
After the earthquake, the ministry and local civil affairs agencies in Yunnan gathered and transported 11,400 tents and tent fabric to the quake-hit areas - 11,235 tents have been distributed and set up, the ministry said in a -statement yesterday.
The statement was issued in response to some recent media reports that relief tents for quake-affected people were in short supply.
The statement said that regions in and around Yingjiang have been hit by several minor tremors since January, and some local residents, out of fear of further danger, had to move to simple shanty shelters made out of plastic.
After the 5.8-magnitude quake hit the county last Thursday, the affected people have moved to better-equipped relief tents provided by the government, and the shanty shelters were no longer in use, the statement said.
The statement said other relief materials including cotton quilts, clothes, drinking water and instant food were sent to the quake-hit region.
The ministry will also continue work to help resettle residents' and ensure that all relief supplies are allocated in a timely manner.
