Relocation hold-out in Wuhan held for assault
TONG Yihong, a Wuhan resident who fled to Beijing and surrendered to police after doggedly resisting a demolition squad, was formally arrested on Monday by prosecutors in Hongshan District of Wuhan City, capital of central China's Hubei Province.
Tong was alleged to have severely injured a member of the demolition crew on November 18, when he hurled bricks at them. He was wanted for defiance and affray crime but was arrested for causing intentional injury, the Beijing News reported yesterday.
After Tong smelled trouble, he fled to Beijing by air on November 20 and surrendered to Beijing police, claiming he did not trust the local administration. However, he was still taken back to his hometown on November 21 afternoon.
Local police said the injured man was still in hospital.
Tong's brother Tong Yijun told the newspaper they received the arrest notice on Monday afternoon.
He rejected claims that the family had refused to move, saying that they had reached a compensation agreement with the demolition side. However, the other party changed their mind suddenly and broke the agreement unilaterally.
