Report: degrees faked
HUNDREDS of alumni of Wuhan University of Technology in Hubei Province tricked the university into granting them degrees by faking qualifications, and many of them are now high-level cadres, a report said yesterday.
The university's Langfang campus in Hebei Province admitted and issued master's degrees to students without admission qualification, the New Express Daily said.
Those students faked their education experience, bachelor's degrees, and entry test scores to win master's degrees from the university. Moreover, some students faked their working experience to meet the requirement of certain master's programs.
The involved students are now working in the local tax bureau, oil pipeline bureau, banks and other sectors.
Li Jiuzhou, one of the graduates, is the son of Langfang campus' vice chancellor Li Jingyuan. Li Jingyuan is also vice president of Hebei University of Technology, which issued a bachelor's degree to his son, according to the newspaper.
But the newspaper investigation found Hebei University of Technology had no record that Li Jiuzhou graduated. It found that, together with other students, he faked the degree.
An official with the university, surnamed Li, told Shanghai Daily yesterday that the WUT's academic board has launched an investigation after seeing the report. He added that punishment might be imposed on the students and faculty members involved.
