Report of virginity faked, says official
ONE of two schoolgirls detained for prostitution in southwest China faked a medical report claiming she was a virgin, a senior provincial official has said.
Local media had also been involved in faking the report for the older girl, Yunnan's deputy publicity director Wu Hao told yesterday's Oriental Morning Post.
The government is still investigating the case and will publish its findings in two days, he said.
The girls plan to go to Beijing to have another examination to prove they are virgins, their father said. The girls said they were willing to publish their real names and photographs to prove their innocence.
The sisters, aged 13 and 15, were arrested outside their home in Kunming City, capital of Yunnan Province, on March 16. Police believed they were prostitutes, according to earlier reports.
Their parents and their father's two friends who were at the scene were also taken to the police station. All were released the next day after police said the girls had not been caught in the act.
The girls denied the prostitution claims and showed test results from the Kunming Forensic Hospital that concluded both were virgins.
But Wu said the older sister's was fake and belonged to another girl.
The parents took the sisters for examinations to see if they were virgins on March 19 and June 1, Wu said. The reports shown to the media were dated June 1.
But doctor Chen Yuhua, who carried out the tests, told investigators one of the girls checked on June 1 was different from the girl in the March 19 examination, when the older sister was found not to be a virgin.
Wu said police had found a man surnamed Wang who confirmed that one of the sisters had lured him into the house for sex on March 16.
Wu said an investigation was continuing into claims that the girls were beaten by police.
