Reporter loses libel suit due to lack of evidence

A TV network journalist has lost a libel lawsuit against renowned soccer announcer Huang Jianxiang.

Beijing Chaoyang District People's Court ruled yesterday that the evidence Lu You presented was inadequate to support her libel charge, China News Service reported.

It's unknown whether Lu will appeal the verdict.

Lu filed the suit against Huang for his blog dated June 6, 2008, on the major Web portal Sina.com, which strongly criticized Ratomir Dujkovic for his job as the head coach (2006-2008) of Chinese men's Olympic soccer team.

Huang revealed in the blog that Dujkovic had an intimate relationship with a CCTV journalist that resulted in the woman having an ectopic pregnancy, which is when a fertilized egg implants itself in tissue outside the uterus.

Lu said although the blog did not mention the journalist's name, it led people to believe it was her after it was widely copied online.

The invasion of privacy had damaged her reputation, she said. Lu also denied having such a relationship with Dujkovic.

Huang was a famous soccer commentator with CCTV. He resigned in November 2006 after making offending comments on air during a crucial World Cup match between Italy and Australia.
