Rescued captain and chief engineer under police probe, experts say odds of disastrous cyclone once in 5 years on accident site
TOURISM authorities confirmed that people on board the sunken luxury cruise ship include 97 from Shanghai, 204 from Jiangsu Province, 11 from Zhejiang Province, 43 from Tianjin, 23 from Shandong Province, 19 from Fujian Province, 8 from Anhui Province as well as 47 crew members and 5 tour guides, Hubei Daily reported.
The ship carrying 458 people that had sank in China's Yangtze River Monday evening. The ship, which departed from the eastern Chinese city Nanjing and is bound for Chongqing Municipality in southwest China, sank "within one or two minutes" after being caught in a cyclone.
The captain and the chief engineer, among the 13 who have been so far rescued, are now under police investigation, China News Service reported.
Authorities said cyclones at the current season is frequent at the accident site but the chances of having a disastrous cyclone there is about once in each five years, CNS reported.
