Rescuers die in heat
THREE people died of heat stroke while fighting a mine fire in east China's Shandong Province yesterday.
Officials at the Zhaozhuang Fangbei coal mine said rescuers had come across fires at several spots in the mine shaft as they tried to reach 28 miners trapped since fire broke out last Wednesday.
Temperatures in the mine shaft reached 60 degrees Celsius and exceeded 80 degrees in some areas, rescuers said.
A total of 91 workers were trapped after an air compression device 255 meters underground caught fire. Sixty-three miners were rescued.
