Rescuers hunt seamen
RESCUERS continued searching yesterday for seven people who were missing after two ships collided in waters off Dachen Island, Taizhou City in east China's Zhejiang Province, on Saturday.
By 6:30pm last night they had not been found. "The chance of finding them alive gets slimmer as time goes by," said rescuer Guo Wenbiao. "Strong wind and waves make the rescue work difficult. We are expanding the search."
Nine crew members of the fishing boat Minxiayu 706 fell into water after their boat collided with a Belize-registered ship and sunk, but only two of them were rescued, said Jia Ce, an official with the frontier defense police of Taizhou City.
Jia said rescuers, including a helicopter, were sent to the site immediately and the authorities have demanded ships passing or operating in nearby waters join the rescue.
The two survivors are in a stable condition in hospital.
