Residential Relocations Ruled Out


INITIATIVES by local governments had eased drinking-water shortages in affected areas and the drought was not severe enough to warrant the relocation of residents, the Water Resources Ministry said yesterday.

Liu Ning, the ministry's vice minister, said governments had taken measures to counter the drought. The measures had ensured drinking water for the 24.25 million drought-affected residents, especially the 19.39 million people in the worst-hit southwest, he said.
