Residents: Sewage infusion ignored
ENVIRONMENTAL authorities in south China are under fire for concealing information for two weeks after a big inner lake was tainted by tons of sewage from a broken pipeline destroyed in tunnel construction project.
The pollution was exposed when massive numbers of dead fish were seen floating on the surface of Nanhu Lake in Nanning City, the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Xiaoxiang Morning Herald reported.
Residents were enraged because they have been kept in dark by local government.
The lake was a renowned tourist spot for its natural beauty. Now its water has turned dark green and emits odors. Nearly 6 tons of dead fish were said to have been pulled out of the lake by a construction group.
