3 police officers injured in explosions

A POLICE officer suffered 70 percent burns and two colleagues were slightly injured in explosions at a fast food restaurant in northern China’s Heilongjiang Province yesterday morning.

Police believe the blasts were deliberate and motivated by personal revenge.

The explosions occurred around 9:30am at a Dicos restaurant in Anda City.

The first bomb was on the second floor of the hamburger and fried chicken restaurant and the second on the first floor, a witness told CCTV. Afterward, a fire broke out, she added.

Police said they had received a call saying that a bomb would explode in Dicos in five minutes and were at the scene in two minutes.

The explosions happened while they were evacuating diners and staff, leaving three officers injured.

They were sent to Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang, for treatment, said police. The officer who suffered the worst burns is said to be in a serious condition, while the others were slightly injured.

No members of the public were hurt in the blasts.

A man had entered the restaurant, put down a bag and left, according to Heilongjiang Morning Post.

He then called staff, saying there was a bomb on the premises, and staff called police, said the newspaper.

The incident is suspected to be a case of personal revenge, said the newspaper.
