Revolutionary theme park project in Chongqing halted

A 2.5-billion-yuan (US$387 million) project to build a theme park in commemoration of China's revolutionary history in Chongqing has been halted, Chinanews.com reported.
The project is not suitable for Nanchuan District where the park was to be located under the current blueprint after appraisal by Chongqing culture authorities, the district government said last night.
The project was halted according to the investment agreement, the government said.
Nanchuan District unveiled a plan on Tuesday to build a "Red Classics Theme Park" at a cost of 2.5 billion yuan in the next four years. According to the design blueprint, the park covering about 128 hectares will include landscapes such as a 1,949-square-meter national flag and a 1,921-square-meter Party flag.
Though the district government said a private company will help raise the investment and government funds won't be involved in the project, many netizens challenged the construction of such a theme park as a huge waste.
