Reward for stolen baby

POLICE are now offering a cash reward to those providing clues after a baby boy was snatched last week from his mother in a village in Langfang, Hebei Province.

A woman and a man forced their way into the house on August 9 and grabbed the two-month-old boy from his crib, provincial police said.

Wang Meili, the mother, told police she opened the door after hearing knocks only to confront the two strangers, who demanded she hand over money and valuables.

The frightened victim gave them all the cash and valuables on hand after they forcibly entered the house. After snatching all the valuables they grabbed the baby from his crib.

The pair fled in a van, which was waiting outside with a driver in it, according to the mother and other witnesses. The driver was identified as a man. The baby snatchers were described as a man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s.

Local police are offering 5,000 yuan (US$788) for clues leading to the arrest of the baby snatchers.
