Reward given in bombing case
TWO nurses have been granted a 100,000 yuan (US$15,754) reward for giving information that led to the arrest of a suspect in a bombing case in central China, police announced yesterday.
The two, whose names were not disclosed for safety reasons, work at a hospital in Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province.
They called the police on Friday after they discovered one of their patients resembling the wanted man Wang Haijian, based on pictures and information previously distributed by the police, officers said.
Police rushed to the hospital and arrested Wang upon confirming his identity through camera surveillance, according to the Wuhan Public Security Bureau.
The blast occurred outside a branch of China Construction Bank in Wuhan's Hongshan District on December 2, killing two people and injuring 15 others . Police publicized the photo of Wang on December 5, offering a 100,000 yuan reward for information leading to his arrest.
The reward is the highest ever given by Wuhan police.
Police said 24-year-old Wang, a native of Xiangyang City in Hubei, moved to Wuhan in 2006 and started to plan a bank robbery in February this year.
He tested several self-made explosives in May, accidentally injuring himself, with dozens of facial scars left, police said.
According to police, Wang said he hid under a bridge or stayed in hospitals at nigh after the blast. He told officers he hid in hospitals because there are so many people coming and going and that they have good heating.
