Rewards for bus danger tip-offs
POLICE in Chengdu City announced they would offer rewards of up to 50,000 yuan (US$7,317)) for information leading to the discovery of people taking gas or other dangerous materials onto public transport yesterday, Chengdu Evening News reported today.
The dangerous materials include coal oil, diesel oil, spray, alcohol, paint, liquid natural gas, detonators, explosives and fireworks.
Passengers in the southwestern China city are prohibited from carrying any dangerous materials on buses.
The man who started the fire on a transit bus in Chengdu in early June killing 27 people was carrying gasoline. He committed suicide because of a family argument.
Zhang Yunliang, 62, was burned to death at the rear of the bus after setting it on fire. The case is still being investigated.
