Road death witness jailed for attacking policemen
A villager who witnessed the death of their village leader under a truck last December in eastern Zhejiang Province was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison for obstructing law enforcement, China Youth Daily reported today.
Qian Chengyu, the villager in Yueqing County, pleaded not guilty and claimed the evidence against him was insufficient after the county court made the verdict yesterday.
Another villager Wang Xiangqiu was sentenced to a suspended one year in jail on the same charge. Wang pleaded guilty at the court.
The court said Qian Chengyu pointed out plain-clothes officers from the Yueqing Public Security Bureau who came to investigate the death of the village leader on December 25 last year and asked other villagers including Wang to throw bricks and stones at the officers, forcing them to retreat. Two policemen were slightly injured.
