Road rage victim says sorry for bad driving
A woman driver who was beaten up in a road rage incident has apologized after her record of driving offenses was exposed online.
“I am caught in a whirlpool of the public voices and my life is badly affected. I have examined myself and drawn lessons from my bitter experience. I have to face what I have done,” Lu Qin said in a letter published in yesterday’s Southern Metropolis Daily.
“I am sorry for being unwise and reckless during driving,” the 28-year-old said. “And I am sorry for my friends and family who tried to defend me but made improper remarks.
“Wrong is wrong. There is no excuse.”
She appealed for an end to a barrage of online criticism.
Lu hit the headlines when she was attacked in Chengdu, capital of southwest China’s Sichuan Province on May 3.
A video posted online showed Lu being dragged out of her car by a male driver surnamed Zhang who threw her to the ground and beat and kicked her.
Lu suffered concussion, bone fractures and severe bruising. She is still in hospital.
Police detained Zhang.
At first there was an outpouring of sympathy for Lu but that turned to anger when another video clip from Zhang’s onboard camera was put online.
It showed Lu cutting him up several times, causing his 1-year-old child to burst into tears. On one occasion she even stopped her car to yell at Zhang.
Subsequently, it was revealed that Lu had broken traffic rules more than 20 times in the past.
In an earlier interview, Lu and her family had insisted on her innocence, saying stories of her bad driving had been made up.
