Rocket scientist aims high
A Chinese rocket scientist yesterday said 110 Chinese-made Long March rockets will take to the skies over the next five years to make way for new models being developed.
Liang Xiaohong, a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference National Committee and a former head of the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology, said the past decade witnessed a rapid increase in the number of Long March rockets launched.
Forty-eight blasted off between 2006 and 2010, but the number rose to 86 between 2011 and 2015, Liang said in advance of the country’s political advisory body’s annual session.
The fact that the country is able to launch so many rockets indicates that its design, production and management capabilities have improved significantly, Liang said, adding: “New-generation rockets will use environmentally friendly propellant and will feature first-class space technologies.”
