Romantic end to a 65-year romance

AN idealized love story come true, a mourning wife in an east China city died three hours after her husband, closing the curtain on their 65-year marriage.

Wei Xiuzhen, 83, shut her eyes for the last time around noon last Thursday at her home in Yizheng City of Jiangsu Province. She was still in tears for her beloved husband Li Lingguo, 83, who had passed away around 9am that morning, yesterday's Yangtse Evening News reported.

The couple had led a happy life since they got married at 18, according to their niece Li Zide.

"They had done everything together in the past 65 years: growing plants, feeding pigs and harvesting grains," she said.

Wei had loved playing mahjong before falling ill three years ago. On those days, Li would do all the housework, their neighbor Li Chengzhong remembered.

After Wei was paralyzed and bed-forbidden in 2006, Li dedicated all his time to caring for her, the neighbor said.

They were very close at heart, with Li instinctively understanding his wife's smallest reaction.

But Li's own health began deteriorating in June.
