Rumor about girls killed for organs ends with man's arrest

THE suspect linked to the disappearance of a teenage girl in Fujian Province has been captured and the girl's body has been found, dismissing the online rumor that several girls had been murdered by organ traffickers, Chinese News Service reported today.

The 31-year-old suspect surnamed Lin was seized by police in Xiapu County on April 21 and was facing charges of kidnapping and murdering the 17-year-old Zhang Zhili on April 9, the report said.

According to the police, Lin was buying books for his brother at evening when he saw Zhang in a local book store. He lied that he needed her help and led her into a reading room on the second floor where he tried to rape her but met her strong resistance. In a rage, Lin strangled Zhang to death and put her body into a woven synthetic bag and dumped the body in a remote corner of the Baiting Village.

After Zhang was reported missing, rumors spread fast in the county that several local girls had gone missing and even probably murdered by organ traffickers. With the arrest of Lin, those rumors were put to rest.
