Russian suspect seized in China
CHINESE police handed over a rape suspect to their Russian counterparts yesterday, the Ministry of Public Security said.
In 2007, Chzhan Yuntszin was suspected of raping a 15-year-old girl he adopted and in 2010 molested his own daughter, who was 11, the ministry said.
Chinese police arrested the suspect in the city of Nanning, in southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region at the request of the Russian side.
Meanwhile, police have seized four people for allegedly kidnapping and murdering two Chinese citizens in Russia.
The ministry said the four, all Chinese citizens, were seized in China and Russia following joint investigations by police in both countries.
It said kidnappers seized the two victims on April 9, 2012, in Irkutsk in southern Russia and demanded a 4 million yuan (US$640,000) ransom. Police found the victims' bodies two days later after relatives had paid 1.6 million yuan.
The ministry said two suspects from northeast Jilin Province were arrested in China at the end of 2012. The other two, from neighboring Heilongjiang Province, were later escorted back from Russia.
The ministry said Chinese and Russian police had been increasingly working together since last year under the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
