Russian traveler under fire for rude behavior on train
The foreigner who dangled his bare feet over the head of a Chinese woman on a trainand insulted her in fluent mandarin is a Russian musician and a principle cellist with the Beijing Symphony Orchestra.
A video footage showing the man putting his feet up over the head of Chinese woman sitting in front him on a train from Shenyang to Beijing has sparked a loud outcry among Chinese web users.
The woman was seen standing up and throwing a magazine at the man's feet, telling him to withdraw his feet, but the Russian responded in mandarin: "It feels so comfortable. Keep massaging me."
The woman called him "a big shame to your country" but the man kept laughing at her and moaned in delight, "It's so awesome! I feel so good!"
The woman then threw other objects at the man and hit him with an empty plastic bottle. The man stopped laughing and insulted her in Beijing dialect, "Shabi," an extremely rude expression for women.
Their fight was stopped by an on-board policeman. In the video, the officer told the woman that the man was an artist so he liked to put his feet high. This remark further enraged the web users.
An official with Beijing Symphony Orchestra, surnamed Zhou, told Shanghai Daily that they identified man in the video as their principle cellist Oleg Vedernikov.
Zhou said Vedernikov will make a public apology to the woman and the video will be posted online later today.
