Sacked after drunken rampage

URBAN management officials in Anhui Province have been sacked after going on a drunken rampage, beating street vendors and policemen, while clearing stalls from a street, China News Service reported today.

The director of Changfeng County Urban Management Bureau surnamed Li was removed from his post and the vice director surnamed Yan was suspended on Monday.

Both were punished for responsibility in the attack on the stall holders and policemen on Saturday. Four people were injured in the melee.

Witnesses said the urban management staff were drunk when they argued and fought with the stall holders and policemen at around 8:40pm on Saturday.

They had apparently earlier drunk alcohol worth 2,041 yuan (US$298) and had spent 2,991 yuan on a meal.
