Salon owner won't cheat even in his time of need
THE owner of a Nanjing business has decided to treat his customers fairly even if it costs him in a time of need.
Ma Yujian, owner of Xiuzuo hairdressing salon, was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. Instead of closing down the business overnight and leaving those who bought prepaid cards for salon services in the lurch, as has happened with many troubled hair salons, Ma chose to return the money to customers. He also pasted a notice outside his store to inform customers.
"I never treat people unfairly. I don't want to owe others money when I leave," Ma said.
Many customers were deeply touched by his integrity and said they would leave the money on the cards to show their support for Ma, who will soon start his costly medical treatment. They also raised money for him, the Modern Express reported yesterday.
The story drew wide attention online yesterday.
"You are a good man. You will recover soon," said an Internet user called Beiqiaofeng.
Ma opened Xiuzuo 11 years ago. "We didn't plan to sell prepaid card at first," Ma's wife said, "but it is convenient for old consumers." Ma kept the value of the cards up to 400 yuan (US$64). He also suggested consumers buy prepaid cards according to personal needs instead of getting them to spend too much.
