Salvage team unmoved by grieving wife

A HELPLESS woman, her husband drowned while swimming in a village reservoir nine days ago, was praying every day on the bank and waiting for the corpse to float up because she couldn't afford a local salvage team, Zhejiang Online reported today.

The wife of Wu Mingfu who drowned in the reservoir in Dongyang County, Zhejiang Province, knelt by the pool with burning incenses for hours, attracting the pity of many passers-by.

She said she had called the police who came but failed to retrieve the body. After that, police told her to pay 10,000 yuan (US$1,458.42) to a private salvage company as officers lacked the equipment and training. They said they had recovered drowned bodies through the company for a long time.
