Sansha mayor's building pledge
THE government in China's southernmost city yesterday vowed to "delay not a single day" in accelerating construction.
Sansha Mayor Xiao Jie's pledge came as Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said the decision to set up the city last year was an important move after taking into account situations at home and abroad.
Home to about 1,000 residents, Sansha administers several island groups and their surrounding waters in the South China Sea.
Special work teams have been established and laws and regulations passed to speed the construction of infrastructure.
"When conditions permit, we will open for tourism," Xiao said.
