Satellite launch center refurbished
CHINA has upgraded the Jiuquan satellite launch center to ensure that the launch of the Shenzhou-8 spacecraft, set for early next month, goes smoothly, a senior engineer said yesterday.
Beijing Special Engineering Design and Research Institute, the main designer of the launch system used at the launch center, upgraded the equipment at the site shortly after the launch of space lab module Tiangong-1 in late September, chief engineer Sun Yadu said. "The new equipment and technologies have dramatically increased the reliability of satellite launches and greatly shortened the time for launch preparation."
China will invite experts at the European Space Agency and the German Aerospace Center and other foreign experts and officials to observe the launch of the Shenzhou-8 spacecraft, Wu Ping, a spokesman for the manned space program yesterday.
