Saucy messages prompt prostitution crackdown

MORE than 200 bathhouse bosses in southern China were warned to stop sending SMS messages touting prostitutes after some accidentally reached the nation's top leaders.

Health authorities in Dongguan city ran a training camp for the sauna house bosses yesterday afternoon, according to today's Guangzhou Daily.

A lecturer said the city will launch a crackdown on prostitution on April 26. Some bosses said they would close their bathhouses while the campaign lasts, the report said.

The vice head of Dongguan's health authority Jin Xingzhong said last week that pimping messages accidentally sent to high ranking leaders had caused great pressure on him.

Jin told Nanfang Daily that if he was held responsible for their messages, the sauna house bosses would not have a easy life either.

The city has about 130 licensed sauna houses, but there are many more unlicensed establishments that offer sex.
