Saudi student arrested for molesting woman

A 22-year-old Saudi Arabian man was arrested yesterday in Changsha in central Hunan Province for molesting a Chinese woman on the street while the victim was too shy to shout for help.

Changsha police said the suspect, named Alsubaie, allegedly pushed the woman, 37, down to the pavement of Jiefang Road and began to molest her around 6am on April 4. His rude behavior was witnessed by several locals.

One witness, Liu Zhegang, said the foreigner pushed the woman down on the ground and tried to tear her clothes off. The woman resisted fiercely but didn't yell for help.

Liu said he thought they were just drunken lovers, but he soon found the woman looked painful and sensed something was wrong. He and some other witnesses intervened and called the police. The suspect was caught on the spot.

The woman told police that the suspect began to harass her in a KFC restaurant as she was reading a newspaper. "He suddenly sat down beside me and touched my breast. I don't know him at all," she said.

Since it was early in the morning hour with few customers in the restaurant, she ran out to the street but the man followed her and pushed her down to the ground. She struggled with the molester but didn't call for help because she felt too shy to shout.

Police said Alsubaie is a student of the Central South University in Changsha, majoring in Chinese language. He told the police that he was drunk at that time and didn't know what he had done.

His classmate Alhindi said the suspect was not a good student as he often skipped classes and went out drinking at night. His Chinese teacher also said Alsubaie was often absent-minded in the class.
