Scammer installs fake ATM
BEIJING police have caught a man who allegedly installed a fake ATM in a local community to con bankcard users.
The machine, with no box for customers to remove money, showed "Out of service" on its screen while a card was inserted and the owner input personal codes. When the card was taken out, the ATM recorded the card's information and PIN code, today's Beijing News reported.
The scammer then duplicated a bankcard and withdrew money from the card at a real authentic bank.
Police caught the scammer surnamed Huang last night in Beijing.
So far, two victims have reported the matter to police, according to the newspaper.
Police are still investigating and have dismantled the fake machine.
