Scandal fails to dislodge village Party boss
A village Party chief in Guangdong Province was not sacked and punished even though a whistleblower accused him of watching porn shows and doing gambling on an overseas trip.
Huang Kangsheng, the Party secretary of Xinglong Village and a deputy to the Zhanjiang City People's Congress, was ordered to make self-criticism in writing after local disciplinary watchdog received the report that he "fondled the breasts of lady boys" in Thailand.
The whistleblower was not satisfied with the punishment and suspected that some higher officials acted as Huang's umbrella, a local newspaper reported yesterday.
The scandal was exposed on the Internet on April 3. Huang allegedly led a group of 40 village officials on a 10-day tour in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand last summer. "They watched live love-making shows and fondled the bodies of Thai transsexuals," the paper cited the whistleblower, who also posted two photos to prove his claim.
A real estate company which obtained a piece of land from the village paid for their trip, which cost about 300,000 yuan (US$48,510).
Huang refused to comment. "I don't want to talk to you. I know you will tape the conversation," he told the newspaper.
