Scenic spot ticket prices set to fall during holiday

TOURISTS are set to pay less to visit 1,400 of China’s scenic spots over the National Day holiday week, the state price watchdog said yesterday.

The National Development and Reform Commission said it has urged local price authorities to push for price cuts averaging about 20 percent.

The commission said the move aims to create a sound market and lower costs for tourists. Discounts are set to apply at well-known spots in Hubei, Guangdong, Hainan and Yunnan provinces, as well as in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The commission has ordered local authorities to unveil discounts before the National Day on October 1. The seven-day National Day holiday, often dubbed “Golden Week,” runs from October 1 to 7. In the past, some scenic spots raised prices during the holiday.
