School bus driver, teacher convicted over girl's death
A kindergarten driver and a teacher were convicted of accidental homicide by a court in eastern Anhui Province for leaving a three-year-old girl in a locked school bus for eight hours and causing her to die of heat stroke.
The driver surnamed Yang was sentenced to three years with a four-year reprieve and the teacher surnamed Wang got the same jail term with a three-year reprieve, according to the Yingjiang District People's Court in Anqing City.
The tragedy occurred last August when the girl failed to get off the school bus after arriving in the kindergarten. Yang and Wang didn't notice that she was still on the bus and locked her inside unintentionally, Xinhua News Agency reported today.
The girl died by the time she was found at 4pm, Xinhua said.
The convicts were given lenient sentences because they confessed to their crimes and offered the compensation to the grief-stricken family, the court said.
