School pays students to grade national college exam papers
AUTHORITIES confirmed yesterday that a university in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, has paid 240 undergraduates to score national college exam papers, a practice banned by the nation's education law.
Xi'an International Studies University said it would correct its mistake immediately and all the illegally graded papers will be reviewed by qualified teachers to ensure the performance of every test taker is judged fairly, Xinhua reported today.
Meanwhile, the Shaanxi Provincial Education Bureau said it will punish those who are responsible for this illegal practice, saying an investigation will be carried out after all scoring work is finished.
A senior student of the university revealed that she was paid 500 yuan (US$77) to grade some 2,000 papers last year. Some students were able to score nearly 1,500 papers in five hours as they were paid by the number.
