School rapped for letting kids dance in rain for officials

A primary school principal in Wenzhou, a city in east China's Zhejiang Province was suspended from office after students were organized to perform in the rain for education officials covered under umbrella, local media reported today.
The Wenzhou Evening Post ran a photo of the New Year celebration held at the Shitanxiang Primary School, showing thinly-clad children dancing in the rain for officials who were under umbrellas held by assistants on December 29, 2011.
Lin Xuanfu, director of the Lucheng District Education Bureau, made a public apology on the Internet yesterday and asked all schools to give students top consideration when organizing such activities.
The school's official website showed some city and district education officials attended the ceremony in rainy weather, including Lin himself.
The local weather forecaster had warned of rain and strong winds that day, but the school continued to hold the performance and it has drawn criticism from the public after the photo appeared in the newspaper.
A teacher at the primary school, surnamed Xu, told the media that students in the photo only danced for three or four minutes when the rain had ceased.
Xu said more than 700 students took part in the celebration and all of them had raincoats. The dance was the only time when the students had no protection for a few minutes.
